HOW WE HELP CHILDREN
CORE – Children Organization for Relief & Education
Terre des Hommes CORE started on 18 April 1994, in a small rented building on the outskirts of Tiruvannamalai by Mr. Chezhian Ramu, who took care of four begging and abandoned children in the street and became an alternative family for children with no families.
In 1996, thanks to Mr. Carlo Crocco, Tdh CORE was really able to flower and the total dedication to children became really possible. Since then, thousands of children have now been saved from the worst situations.
Tdh CORE is working extensively in India and more specifically in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu, developing various child welfare programs. Tdh CORE focuses on child development through children’s rights, education, quality care, support and protection. We currently work in 5 districts of Tamil Nadu:Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Cuddalore, Vellore and Kancheepuram. Our administrative base is in Tiruvannamalai, which is known for its divine and eternal peace and is rich in traditional values.
“Simply human being working for human being”
Chezhian Ramu (b. 1969) was born and educated in Chennai in an orthodox family. He was the only son of his family. When he lost his parents in a road accident in 1991, he moved to Tiruvannamalai in search of peace, love and affection. As he came across an abandoned and begging children wandering in the streets of Tiruvannamalai, Chezhian compared his circumstances with that of those children, who were starving, not only for food but also for shelter, protection and love. This awareness made him commit to “lighting the life” of suffering children.
“Our focus is to develop children and young adults to their full potential. My experience shows that thousands of children who were in our programs became independent adults, who are socially and economically successful members of our society.”
– Tdh CORE President and Founder, Mr Chezhian Ramu
